The Fret Shack is a one-man repair workshop in south Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My name is Jeff Richard,

My background includes guitar repair training at the Galloup School for Guitar Building and Repair in Big Rapids, Michigan;
serving as a bench repairman at several traditional music shops in Louisiana; and over 30 years of experience
in guitar repair, teaching, collecting, performing and recording. My field of repair knowledge ranges from common jobs
to more advanced, and I approach each job seeking satisfaction from the standpoint of both
the professional repairman in me and the impassioned guitar player in both the client and myself.

My shop is not a traditional retail music storefront and all visits to the workshop are by advance appointment only.
By not having storefront expenses nor stocking retail inventory found on a sales floor,
 I significantly reduce the costs of doing business and ultimately pass that savings on to my clients.

All jobs taken on by The Fret Shack include a personal consultation, an instrument inspection
and job estimate prior to commencement;  open lines of communication throughout the task;
and a commitment to turn the job as quickly as possible while ensuring ideal results.

To talk about your guitar’s needs or to set up an in-person appointment,
I can be reached at  225-916-7795 (leave a detailed message) and at  info@thefretshack.com.

The Fret Shack, LLC, is fully licensed by applicable local, state and federal entities to do business.
I carry liability and on-site instrument insurance and workshop security/monitoring with nationally-known firms.

I service all brands of electric and acoustic guitars and basses, including 6-, 7-, 8- and 12-string guitars
and 4-, 5-, 6-, 8- and 12-string basses. Common brands serviced include but are definitely not limited to:
Fender, Gibson, Paul Reed Smith, Alvarez/Yairi, B.C. Rich, Breedlove, Carvin, Charvel, Dean,
Epiphone, ESP/LTD, First Act, G&L, Gretsch, Guild, Hamer, Ibanez, Jackson, Kramer, Martin,
Music Man, Ovation/Adamas/Applause, Parker, Peavey, Rickenbacker, Schecter, Seagull/Godin,
Squier, Steinberger, Suhr, Taylor, Takamine, Tom Anderson Guitarworks, Washburn and Yamaha.

The Fret Shack uses D'Addario and DR Strings on all repair jobs unless specified otherwise by our clients.
D'Addario and DR Strings are the strings of choice for a huge list of popular artists and major
manufacturers, based on incredible product variety, superb and technologically advanced alloys
and rock-solid consistency among string sets. D'Addario string varieties we stock include their renowned
XL series  for electric guitars and basses; their EXP micro-coated strings for 6- and 12-string acoustics; and
the Pro-Arte series  for classical guitars. DR's Pure Blues strings, a hand-wound pure nickel round-core
string, are our favorite strings for many vintage and modern retro classics. We carry guitar humidifiers
and other select guitar maintenance products from D'Addario's acclaimed subsidiary, Planet Waves.

The Fret Shack is an authorized Seymour Duncan  and TV Jones dealer. Seymour Duncan has been a leader
in replacement pickups for over four decades, and their passive and active guitar and bass pickups
are standard equipment in numerous major manufacturers' instruments. TV Jones offers modern refinements
of assorted vintage and retro pickup classics. We stock many of Seymour Duncan's popular standard
and Antiquity series  pickup replacements and we have full access to the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. We have
a similar arrangement with TV Jones, with options including custom fabrication to fit virtually any pickup footprint,
and we stock their most popular units, including their heralded TV Classic sets.

The Fret Shack is an authorized dealer for Allparts, a major supplier of top-quality hardware
and electronics components (among other things) to major guitar manufacturers and repair/mod shops alike.
I keep in stock or have access to in-demand products and parts by companies including Bartolini, Bigsby, CTS,
Dunlop, Electro-Socket, Gotoh, Graph Tech,  Grover, Hipshot, Lace, Schaller, Sperzel, Switchcraft, TonePros
and Wilkinson. Pickups, parts and products offerings through other supplier relationships
include Jescar, Fender, Gibson, Dimarzio, Fishman, Floyd Rose, EMG, L.R. Baggs,
Martin, Kluson, Shadow,  WD, Ernie Ball, Peavey and Mighty Mite.

The most frequent and popular guitar repair jobs I see include general set-ups and maintenance;
fret leveling/reconditioning and full and partial fret replacements; bridge, tuning keys and hardware
repair and replacement; and electronics repair, upgrades and modifications.

I ask clients to provide a new set of their preferred brand of strings
per instrument
if a brand other than D'Addario or DR Strings is preferred. Basic instrument setup service and rates
do not reflect replacement or reconditioning of hardware, electronics or other parts nor associated labor fees.

All jobs begin with a pre-job consultation to discuss the instrument(s) in question
and to set tentative inspection/delivery and return dates.  CLICK HERE to set up a pre-job consultation.
